Happy new year from DOMINIQUE LEONE, a San Francisco based, Messiaen-lovin' avant-pop composer/producer; this was from his recent 'Abstract Expression' album, out on Important Records www.dominiqueleone.com ...lets hope 2010 isn't as apocalyptic as this ten minute opener of SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM's 2007 album 'In Glorious Times' - news is that SGM are running around Oakland CA making a film called 'The Last Human On Earth' as well as music and general creativity www.sleepytimegorillamuseum.com  
               Wooo, a new EXTRA LIFE track, a taster from their forthcoming album soon to be released by UK label LOAF (in March) www.extralifeblood.com ...Extra Life are from around New York, their previous album 'Secular Works' was The Organ's 2009 album of the year
       More wooo, got my mitts on this BYGONES track, as good and unique as you'd expect from a hybrid of Hella's drummer/composer Zach Hill and Tera Melos guitarist/composer Nick Reinhart - download from Sergeant House records web site).  They both lived in the same Californian suburb, had a bit of time on their hands, came up with this! www.myspace.com/bygonesmusic
        So far, so Stateside, but here's THE EX from Holland, a magnificent and inspiring collective of musicians, independant and creative for three decades and releasing an album simply called '30' to celebrate this - they're also touring the UK very soon - www.theex.nl   ...strangely sonically connecting with HATFIELD AND THE NORTH and a bit of beloved 70s album 'The Rotters Club' and don't get me started on how the TV adaptation of Jonathan Coe's fine book of the same name, in which said album has a vital role, completely avoids using said music or anything like it. Pah.  Never mind, JAGA JAZZIST are unafraid of the P word, hence the glories of their delightful new album 'One Armed Bandit' out on Ninja Tune, out on 25th Jan www.ninjatune.net ...they're from Norway, there's nine of them and it shows.
Finally a couple of UK bands - BEYOND THIS POINT ARE MONSTERS pump some life into post-rock with a rewarding and delicately crafted new album titled 'Family Tree'   ...and just can't resist another play of this track from recent album  'We Bake Our Bread Beneath Her Holy Fire' by South London band THUMPERMONKEY LIVES! Thumpermonkey have gigs coming up but were looking for a new long-term bassist last I heard so email me if you're interested and we'll connect you up -  if you're into the kind of weirdass stuff on this show, that is!
